Barbados Association of Pig Farmers

The Barbados Association of Pig Farmers is a commodity group of the Barbados Agricultural Society and is the successor to the National Association of Pig Farmers, which formed to provide for the establishment of a Pig Farmers' Co-operative.

It was anticipated that the Co-operative would have become the commodity group for the pig farmers under the BAS, however, this did not materialize and the BAS was forced to re-establish a commodity group under its umbrella. The first meeting to establish the BAPF was held on Saturday May 20th 1995 at the BAS headquarters, Beckles Road.
The new Pig Farmers Association at the time set out to achieve the following objectives:
- The promotion and development of the pig industry, particularly the FRESH PORK market
- The development of better standards within the industry and the encouragement of the highest sustainable levels of production among members
- To work towards planned production, realistic product costing and coordinated marketing within the industry
- Increasing the market share of fresh pork in the local meat market by producing quality pork at lower prices
- Facilitation of the bulk purchasing of feed for members
- Provision of farm inputs at competitive prices including boots, medicines and other veterinary products and artificial insemination
- The marketing of fresh pork to hotels, supermarkets and restaurants
- To develop a regime for the proper maintenance of farm records
